On Sunday 16 May, our A grade Pennant team defeated Kilmore 4/3 in the final, held at Broadford golf club. This capped off a great season for the team, which was undefeated for the competition. The team can rightly claim to be the best group of scratch golfers in the Dalhousie District.
The team comprised Brett Lockens (Captain), Trevor Lambert, Chris Lingard, Darren Ryan, Phil Johns, Darryl Yanner and Danny Bellchambers. The match with Kilmore was a hard fought affair, going right down to the wire. After the first six pairs had finished the result stood at three all, following wins to Lockens, Lingard and Bellchambers. In the last pairing, Trevor Lambert was one down to Kevin Whyley (Kilmore) after sixteen holes and in the trees with his drive from seventeen. Coolly, he still made par to win the hole, and sunk a birdie putt on the eighteenth to clinch the rubber and the match for Lancefield.
We also had one handicap team in another grand final at Broadford. The team was Trevor Allen (Captain), Dave Muller, Barry Flentjar, Hugh Drummond and three juniors—Mason Memmolo, Luke Rebbechi and Jarryd McGill. They weren’t quite good enough on the day, going down 4 1/2 to 2 1/2 but did very well to go all the way to the final.
Well done to both teams.
