This page is designed to highlight the achievements of our Junior Club Members, to encourage them in their playing and enjoyment of the game and to advertise and promote golf activities such as tournaments and clinics especially run for Junior golfers.
As indicated elsewhere, Lancefield has two junior categories - Under 12 years (membership $33.00 pa) and Under 18 years ($66.00 pa). Currently we have about 20 junior players, many of whom play in regular competition. Most of our juniors are boys but the Club seeks to actively encourage young girls interested in learning golf to become involved too.
With the help of adult Club Members, juniors are offered the chance to develop their golfing skills through specially-designed clinics and to gain an understanding of other aspects of the game (rules, etiquette, scoring) by playing along with more experienced Members. In this way we hope to foster a love and appreciation of golf which will last them for many years.
Clinics
The Club has run fortnightly Saturday morning junior clinics for a couple of years with the assistance of previous Club Champions Darren Ryan, Chris Lingard and Trevor Lambert together with a team of helpers, all of whom donate their time at no cost.
In 2010 Junior clinics will commence on Saturday 13 February at 9.00am, and fortnightly thereafter (ie 27 Feb; 13 & 27 March; 10 & 24 March initially but for longer if required). Clinics usually run until about 10.30am.
We encourage all kids with even a passing interest in golf to come along and have fun, and to get their friends to come too. The clinics are designed for those new to golf as well as for those with some experience but wishing to improve their skills.
The Club does not charge for the first session but we encourage participants to then join as Junior Members if they wish to continue with the clinics (Click here for Membership forms).
There is no need for participants to provide golf equipment - the Club will supply golf clubs and balls.
VGolf Program
In 2009, we introduced the VGolf 'Skills Challenge & Awards Program' into the Club. This is an exciting program designed by the Victorian Golf Association (VGA) for juniors taking up and learning golf. The program is structured round achieving targets each lesson to motivate the juniors to progress as far as they can go.
Full details on enrolment, and the Skills Awards Program are available from The VGA's website www.golfvic.org.au or from John Rebbechi on 5429 1918. Basically, a VGA professional visits local primary schools in the first instance and conducts a preliminary clinic. Clubs such as Lancefield then offer a 10 week starter program running over 10 consecutive Saturday mornings. Participants pay $35 for the 10-week course and receive a VGA sample bag as well as access to the VGolf website so that they can monitor their progress. The program involves a series of skills tests that the Club coaches and tests, and then enters the results into the website.
It is intended to run the VGolf program at Lancefield again this year. Dates will be notified when known.
Coming Junior Tournaments
We'll use this section to notify Junior Members of relevant golf tournaments and events as information comes to hand.
First Macedon Ranges Junior Tournament - a 54 hole tournament for age groups 14 & under, 16 & under and 18 & under was held at Woodend, Romsey and Lancefield over the long weekend Saturday 6 March to Monday 8 March 2010.
