Club News & Social Events March 2010
Club News
From Club President Peter McLaughlin -
New Year begins at Lancefield Golf Club
The Club's Annual General Meeting on 10 October kicked off the 2009-10 golfing year at Lancefield. A new Committee was elected, which is looking forward to taking the Club forward again in 2010 (see CONTACTS).
We have recently begun a tee renovation program with new couch turf being laid on several tees. The tees are now in regular use (February 2010).
Several other course improvements are well on the way, with extensive tree planting, the installation of a water bore beginning in 2010, new practice nets and discussions with Macedon Ranges Shire Council regarding the use of the old Lancefield tip site to establish new holes on the Course.
Coaching Clinics
In March we will again be running coaching clinics with Brian Twite from Metropolitan Golf Club. Brian played professional golf internationally and was the professional at Metropolitan in Melbourne's sand belt for thirty years.
The clinics are organised to cater for beginners and social players wanting to progress to having a handicap and for those who have a handicap but who wish to lower it.
Dates & times for the clinics are -
Wednesday 10, 17 and 24 March at 9.00am, 10.15am or 11.30am.
Sunday 14, 21 and 28 March from 9.00am, 10.15 am or 11.30am.
The cost of these clinics is $30 for three sessions. To register your interest and make bookings you can -
Call the Club on 5429 1922 , download the Clinics Enrolment Form to complete & return to the Club, call Jenny on 0404 467 125, John on 5429 1918 or Helen on 0407 542 949.
Membership Opportunity
Our new discounted membership scheme (Cell Scheme) commenced from 1 October, offering discounts of up to 45% on normal membership fees for existing and new members who can introduce others into the Club. To date nine such cells have been formed, with a couple more in the offing. This represents more than thirty new members!
If you have toyed with the idea of taking up or returning to golf there will never be a better opportunity to do so in Lancefield. The opportunity is open to all, and will remain open through the year to allow time for you to organize some friends to take advantage of the discount. Cells introduced from now will attract the discount and a pro-rata reduction for the part of the year that has elapsed since October 1 2009 (the commencement of our Club year).
As outlined above, the Club has organized clinics and support for all new members who might be apprehensive about not knowing any existing members or about taking up a golf.
Anyone interested in forming a Cell and saving on their membership fees can download MEMBERSHIP FORMS here.
Further details of how the Cell scheme works can be found at CELL MEMBERSHIP SCHEME or from John Rebbechi (5429 1918) or David Noble (0417 572 856).
Junior Golfers
There are exciting developments in Junior Golf at Lancefield.
We have recently seen an increase in the number of juniors taking up golf. Boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 16 have been attending the coaching clinics and taking advantage of the expert coaching provided by Trevor Lambert, the 2008-9 Club Champion.
In fact, interest in Junior golf has been sufficient for us to add a Juniors page to this website, expressly for the purpose of highlighting their activities and achievements (click here to access).
Lancefield Golf Club Ladies
From Lady Captain Jenny Colson -
Wednesday 6 January saw 12 Lancefield Ladies play in a Stroke competition, the first for the year. Some great scores were returned, with Pam Drummond winning the day with 60 nett from a 45 handicap, and Sue Cunningham runner-up with 62 nett (36 handicap). Three other ladies (Jenny Colson, Lyle Gleeson and Helen Dennett) also lowered their handicaps on what was a perfect golfing day.
As usual, a sociable gathering and lunch was enjoyed afterwards.
The Lancefield Ladies have decided that Competition will now be held each Wednesday from 8.30am (previously each alternate week) - see COMPETITION & RESULTS for the proposed syllabus for 2010.
Lady members who do not wish to play competition golf are encouraged to come along and join in - we are a very social group and you will be most welcome! We play a different format each week - stroke, Stableford, Ambrose and 4BBB and we are having a lot of fun learning these variations on our great game.
The ladies have also agreed that a Monthly Medal stroke competition will be held in 2010 and that the Stroke match held on Wednesday 6th Jan should be the inaugural Medal round. January's winner was Pam Drummond.
Of course, any lady who would like to play golf but is a bit nervous about the prospect, is also encouraged to join us. Club membership details are at MEMBERSHIP. For those new to golf, tuition can be arranged and equipment lent until you can obtain your own. For more details contact Ladies Captain Jenny Colson on 5429 1445 or Helen Dennett on 5429 1849 or 0407 542949.
Any lady new to golf and who would like some assistance in technique (grip, stance, swing, chipping, putting etc) is invited to contact Helen on 0407 542949 who is happy to spend time with you on the course to help you develop the basics.

3 March - Monthly Medal won by Tina Baker - 67(34), runner-up Ann Bainbridge-Robb 70(42). We had 15 ladies playing competition with another six playing 9 holes only. This is a wonderful group and we hope to continue getting these numbers.
Sue Cunningham, Kaylene Cruise, Hida Caley and I went to Broadford on 2 February for a 4BBB competition. Sue & Kaylene brought back the B Grade Winners Trophy with an outstanding score of 50 points! Kaylene also won the February Monthly Medal at Lancefield - congratulations Kaylene.
March will be a busy month with Brian Twite's clinics which we look forward to, and which many of us found beneficial previously, especially in helping us develop the confidence to join in our Wednesday games. Come & join us afterwards for a coffee in the Clubhouse.
Ladies please note - On Wednesday 17 March we are planning a lunch at Aspy's in Lancefield as the course will be closed for greens maintenance.
